Day 156

Peugeot Day.

Today it is all about picking up our little car. We have arranged a 3 month lease on a brand new Peugeot 208. This, we believe, will make it cheaper and easier for us to travel throughout Europe. The trains are good but we find them to be too expensive as we have 4 x bums on seats. We make our way to the airport via bus and arrive 1200. We had completed all paperwork before hand and so we had nothing outstanding. After a small briefing on where everything is we are handed the keys.

We get in our little car, it has only 4km on the dash and has a (GPS) satnav. This will make it easy getting to places.

So what do you do when you get your new car in Europe?

Go to Monaco and drive around the F1 street circuit of course!

Setting the GPS was fun because Monaco is another country so you have to set that first, then suburb and finally street. Get out on the motorway our little car has no guts but smooth at highway speeds. Get to Monaco. This place is truly for the wealthy. I have not seen so many Aston Martins, Bentley’s, Range Rovers and Ferraris. It seems like they are a dime a dozen in Monaco. So what to do when this is not enough. Paint them a horrendous orange or gold colour to make them stand out from the crowd.

We thought this was bright but drove past a GOLD version later on, Monaco Marina.

Anyway we do a few laps of the circuit, fuel up, get some lunch, park in the marina car park and have our lunch, picnic style on the seats under the trees at the marina. It actually worked out good. I double parked as if I was working on or visiting one of the super yachts and we just sat on a seat in the marina just watching the world go by. It was really fun.

The entire place just puts a smile on my face. Don’t know why but everyone just seems happy, a lot of tourists just like us amazed at the wealth in the place. I am sure there would be some posing in this place but it seems to me that everyone is just happy to relax and let the world go by. On the hill we could see Monaco old town and the castle. We could not drive over to it or park anywhere near it so didn’t get up there.

We sat in the marina for 1 hour before jumping into our supercar for another lap and up to the entrance of the 3 x casinos. This is where one goes to pose.

The entrance to the casinos is lined with Supercars + 1 Peugeot 208. Very nice.

We checked it out for a little while then left to make our way, via the Cote de Azure, to Nice. The coastline is spectacular all the way to Nice, and we stop a lot for photos. There is some seriously wealthy people all the way down the coastline to Nice. We drove the promenade in Nice to return to the room for some pizza and salad for dinner.
