Day 123 – 128

Just Chilling Out.

We have been really enjoying our apartment in Skopelos.

The girls have been making good progress with their school work and we have a pretty good routine where we have breakie, then into school work for the morning, then hang out by the pool deck for the afternoon. The only but pretty annoying issue we have is the inconsistent Wifi in the place, it is shocking. We cannot guarantee when it will work and for how long, so when it is on we take full advantage. Anyway apart from that all else is good and life is really easy going on Skopelos Island.

From the pool deck we either make dinner at home or go for the walk into town and have dinner. Spring and Summer have been loving Greek salads and Autumn’s favourite is chicken souvlaki. We also have indulged in a Skopelos cheese pie and all the restaurants claim it as their special recipe but they all looked identical, like this one below.

Skopelos cheese pie, cheese rolled in pastry and deep fried, yum.

I have been getting into the Mythos beers and an open ‘pork gyros’ for dinner.

Winters favourite dinner or lunch, pork gyros with a Mythos beer, Skopelos, Greece.

I know it is not good for me, especially all the chips one top  and I may be over the tonne by the time I get off the island but it is so nice I cannot go a couple of dinners without one.

We have arranged for the express ferry at 0700 on day 129 of our trip. So on our final night we walked into town and really felt like we had been here for a while as all the shops were gearing up for the peak season. The old town and all the back alley ways are really starting to look nice and we have noticed an influx of tourists over the last few days which the locals will thoroughly enjoy.

This priest slapped Winter and then kissed him and the girls on the cheeks after the photo, Skopelos, Greece.

We ate at one of our favourite little eateries on the water front and sure enough smashed another Pork Gyros. The sun doesn’t go down until 2100 and so people eat dinner at that time or later. Back home it is between 1830 – 1900 for us but here it has been 2030 – 2100 and by the time we get back and get ready for bed it is almost midnight. Anyway the same happened tonight and we have to be at the ferry terminal 0630.

We will be tired tomorrow morning. At least we have a full day of travelling to sleep it off.

  1. Is Greece expensive? it looks fantastic and I’ve tried to talk Mrs pants into going there instead of Hawaii where she likes shopping

    1. I would say Greece is not as cheap as we expected but cheaper than Sydney for sure. Athens is expensive but that is to be expected in a big city. There are heaps of cheap guesthouses to stay at on all the islands and all with cooking facilities, which makes things alot cheaper. Car rental is cheap and also motorbike rental. Shopping is good also. There are some nice dresses in great colours as well as some great jewelry. Tell her she will love it. The history is amazing and makes this a worthwhile destination. The island that we stayed on is the greenest of all the Greek islands but the one most travellers have recommended to us was Kefalonia which is West of Athens. Let us know if you decide to go and we share some tips. Good to hear from you. Regards, the seasons.
